A less strenuous hike

The day after the Koko Crater climb, we hiked around the craters of Koko Head -- which, despite the similar names, are actually different places (though you can see one from the other).

This is Koko Head.

Tom and I walked down around the craters here, which was another very exposed walk -- but this time the ocean wind roared all over us! The breeze definitely kept us cool and very dry, but on a couple ledgy parts of the walk it made me want to be very short.

Tom appears pretty unconcerned, though!

The plant life there seemed to agree with me, though, because these cacti were the tallest things we saw on the wind-exposed side.

Maybe you can't tell from this picture, but they're about as tall as my finger.

It's funny, because most of the walk, the terrain looked like this:

Dry, rocky, not much plant life going on.

But the part that is sheltered by the bay gets a lot greener.

This is Hanauma Bay, as seen from this trail:

Beautiful and a great place to snorkel!

And we got a great view of Koko Crater that we'd hiked the day before.

It was good to not be up THERE on such a sunny day!

It was a pretty cool hike!

You might like this APOD; I think it was taken while you were in Hawaii.
