Concert weekend

Last weekend, the music group I play in had back-to-back concerts on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The program's theme was a variety show in the spirit of The Ed Sullivan Show (I had to look up who he was, too).

Our emcee welcomes the audience and chats about the show.

Notice how I'm sitting kinda forward there. Well there was a traffic jam on the drive up, so I got there with enough time to warm up with the group, but not to use the bathroom before the concert started. Let me tell you, that really improves your posture. I sat ram-rod straight the entire first half.

See what I mean?

We had guest performers too.

Some of our percussionists played a glock feature ...

We also had a few vocal numbers, and these singers have worked with us before. They're great!

This guy in particular likes to joke around with our director.

Lots of fun.

I felt like I had plenty to do just playing my part. Well, except for one number where we had to clap for awhile. It's probably a little funny to watch -- this concert band playing some Elvis medley, and half the band puts their instruments on their laps and starts clapping.

Of course it can lead to awkward moments when you have to grab your instrument in a hurry and resume playing!

Woo hoo, like that! Yow!

The audience had a good time, and overall we played pretty well. But it was a long program and we were kinda whipped by the end of the weekend. My face was sore, too!

Good times.

  2. Well, okay, you've *heard* of him. It's not like you could have seen any of his shows or anything ... (right?)

  3. Um, no, that's not so. Watching the Ed Sullivan Show used to be a weekly family ritual.
