Getting Lost in Oahu

No, we haven't been back to Hawaii since January (though if I had the power to teleport, I'd go there pretty much every day -- someone get to work on that, okay?). But I had a semi-good reason to hold off on this post.

Earlier, I showed pictures of Tom and me at the Lost beach. But I left out a few minor details.

Like this, for example:

People who watch the show know what this stuff is -- the set for the castaways on the beach!

There's a street on the other side of those trees!

Seeing that set piece was a fun surprise. But it got better.

Because just a little further down the beach, we saw a group of people sitting in the sand watching something ...

Hmm ... what's this?

Are those cameras?!

Um, YEAH! We randomly found a live shoot of one of the final episodes of Lost!

There were about fifteen or twenty other people there, just watching, but given the sizes of the cameras most of them had, Tom and I were clearly the only ones there by accident.

There was also a guy in a yellow security vest standing off to the side, keeping an eye on us -- no one was allowed closer to the set than where he was standing. But everyone was quiet and respectful, and just watched (and snapped pictures).

Like these:

Hurley and Michael, chillin' under the tent (that's Ilana on Michael's right, too!).

The actors who weren't in a scene got to sit in the shade, which is good because it was a very sunny afternoon, and standing around in the direct Hawaiian afternoon sun on the sand like that wouldn't necessarily be a thrill.

Tom preferred to watch from the shade!

But when it was time for their scene, they got up, walked over to where the filming was (out of our sight), and then came back to the tent when they were done.

I think Michael's done for now 'cause he took off his hoodie.

And the reason I'm posting this now? Well, the scene we witnessed being filmed was in the episode that aired last week ("Everybody Loves Hugo" -- no wonder the guy playing Hurley looked so exhausted!).

We saw this shoot on January 26th, and the episode aired on April 13th. But I don't know what conclusions to draw from that, because even though this scene was the episode "teaser", it doesn't have to mean it was filmed first ... does it?

Anyway -- it was really interesting and a LOT of fun!

Not bus walking ...

I've been walking home from work, on average three days per week, for about the last three weeks -- ever since we've had that many days a week that weren't torrential rain.

It's only about three miles, so it's a nice way to unwind and get some air. The walk is a straight shot down the same street that the bus takes, so it's busy and there's a lot to look at.

For some of the evenings last week, I knew Tom had to drive past me to get to the theater to rehearse, so I always watched for his car so we could wave to each other. That was nice.

Also, when I was walking home one day last week, one woman (who was waiting at a bus stop) said to me, "I could have sworn I saw you walking yesterday, only one town over!" That was me, all right. Another time, I walked by some people standing at a bus stop, and then after awhile a bus passed me, and I saw one of the people who'd been at the stop look at me, laugh, and wave. Funny.

The walk takes me just under 45 minutes, but closer to 40 if I am more determined.

Tom's birthday was yesterday!

Our household tradition is that the birthday boy/girl gets their presents in the morning in bed.

Of course, Tom wakes up ages before I do, but we make it work.

The show he's in right now had a matinee on his birthday, but I still got to take him to brunch beforehand and dinner afterward. Oh, and pick up his cake.

A few people at the bakery and on the bus had a good laugh at this but Tom took it all in stride.

And now we have cake!

The Easter Bunny doesn't have to bring chocolate ...

After the gigantic heap of sweets we got at Christmas time -- which we only finished up in early March -- AND the gigantic heap of (awesome!) cookies we had recently (baked by Tom himself!), it was pretty clear that if the Easter Bunny (that would be ME) delivered the usual assortment of jelly beans and chocolate eggs, Tom was going to curl up in a ball on the floor and howl (well, he didn't say so in so many words. But I know that's what he meant).

So, the Easter Bunny went for a change of pace this year. Things in the "basket" this year included wine crackers, red pepper tapenade, and cheeses like cranberry wensleydale and a really nice sharp gouda. I also threw in a couple bags of these ginger chews that I really love (which are probably horrendous for your teeth because they're so chewy, but so far so good).

Tom approved of my choices, so maybe his sweet tolerance will return to normal soon. Anyway, we ended up feasting on many of "Easter" items tonight at supper, and it was all really tasty.
